We are seeking an experienced and motivated Communications and Media Officer to join MEP Catarina Vieira’s team in Brussels as an Accredited Parliamentary Assistant (APA).
Responsibilities:

Social Media (55%):
-
Develop and implement a comprehensive social media strategy across platforms like BlueSky, Instagram, LinkedIn, and TikTok.

Create engaging content, including text posts, images, videos, and stories.
-
Translate world events, policy developments, and details about the MEP’s work into clear and engaging messaging for citizens.
-
Maintain and update relevant platforms, including the website.
-

Traditional Media (30%):
-
Provide media monitoring on relevant issues.
-
Build and maintain relationships with journalists and media outlets.
-
Analyze incoming media requests, liaise with journalists to prepare media engagements.
-
Draft and disseminate press releases.
-
Pitch stories to journalists and secure media coverage for the MEP’s activities.
-
Support preparation of MEP for media engagements.
-
Organize press conferences.
-

Other duties (15%):
-
Work with policy advisor colleagues on messaging around specific topics.
-
Support colleagues with proofreading and speech writing tasks.
-
Support the organization of events, including related communication.
-
Liaise with relevant stakeholders, including GroenLinks-PvdA, the Greens-EFA group, and citizens.

Prepare responses to citizens’ inquiries.

Support the team with other ad-hoc duties.

Qualifications and Skills:
-
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
-
Minimum 2 years of experience in communications, media relations, or a similar role.
-
Experience in graphic design and video editing, or willingness to learn.
-
Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
-
Strong understanding of social media platforms and best practices.
-
Fluency in English and Dutch (knowledge of other EU languages is a plus).
Additional Desired Skills:

Knowledge of the EU institutions.

Affinity or previous experience working on the topics of trade and human rights.

Previous experience working in politics.
-
Experience in media relations and press engagement.

Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and circumstances.
What we offer:

An initial 1-year contract, with the intention of extending it until June 2029.

A 36-hour work week (Monday to Thursday).

A starting monthly salary set at Grade 8 (approximately 3700 euro, plus 16% expatriation allowance if applicable).

Process:
The first round of interviews will take place between June 10th and 12th. The second round of interviews will take place between June 23rd and 26th. At least one of the interview rounds will be in person in Brussels, with the option of the other round being online, depending on the availability of candidates. Selected candidates may be asked to complete a short assignment.
