The European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) is looking for a dynamic and motivated Communications Coordinator. Reporting to EORTC’s Head of Communications, the Communications Coordinator collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of multi-channel communication tactics to maximise external visibility of the Organisation’s impact in clinical cancer research.
Role scope
Closely collaborating with key stakeholders (e.g., Executive Office, International Affairs & Policies, Fundraising, Clinical/Medical teams, EORTC Network / HCPs), the Communications Coordinator delivers approaches to communicate on EORTC’s assets (research outcomes & infrastructure) across the Organisation’s various channels. Supported by internal designers and external service providers as needed, he/she implements communication content in different formats, ranging from web content through press releases, newsletters, and social media posts, to print collateral.
At the crossroads of science and operations, the role combines hands-on delivery of varied communication activities with understanding of the Organisation’s scientific context / field of operation.

Main responsibilities / Major Activities

Storytelling: Support the Head of Communications with the development of compelling science-related stories and content for dissemination across EORTC’s channels, aimed at raising the visibility of EORTC’s impact, and level of engagement of our stakeholders.

Development of print and digital communication deliverables / ‘marketing’ collateral: Project-manage the development of key communication materials – notably EORTC’s Annual Report – coordinating with stakeholders across functions/areas to compile content and ensure content clearance, and liaising with internal designers &/or external service providers (e.g., copywriter, agency, printer) to ensure timely delivery.

External digital communications: Coordinate/project-manage the planning and delivery of communication campaigns – notably webinars –, in alignment with global awareness calendars (e.g., cancer awareness days/months) and developing programme and content in collaboration with relevant experts (e.g., researchers/HCPs). Support the Head of Communications in the compilation and distribution of EORTC’s newsletters to EORTC’s Network of researchers and EORTC’s stakeholders/partners.

Editorial content planning & web publishing: Manage the EORTC editorial (News Releases) calendar and ensure timely publication of contributions. Assist the EORTC webmaster in maintaining and updating the EORTC website content as necessary.

Social media management & content distribution: Maintain EORTC presence on social media plan, coordinate social media campaigns and cultivate EORTC’s online community; includes the creation of compelling content that is optimised for social channels and that drives action and engagement based on audience insights and trends, and the leveraging of social content from partner organisations to EORTC audiences.

Audio-visual content: Coordinate resources as required to support creation of audio-visual content (e.g., videos, podcasts, infographics) to complement various communication deliverables.

Communications Quality Control: Act as EORTC Editor for communication content produced. Ensure quality control of communications deliverables managed. Ensure that all materials/content produced are aligned with the EORTC identity & style guide.

Communications impact monitoring: Measure impact of content disseminated / campaigns using a variety of analytics. Monitor EORTC’s social media & online presence and propose approaches to further enhance presence/impact. Track & monitor media/news coverage of EORTC.

Events: Support colleagues involved with event organisation in producing marketing material for EORTC conferences. Support with manning the EORTC exhibition stand at events as needed. Occasional travel within Europe will be required.
Profile

University degree in Marketing, Communications and/or Life Sciences (B.Sc. minimum)

Minimum two years of demonstrated work experience in communications in an international/European environment, ideally in the health/science sector;

Strong drafting & editing skills for a variety of different outlets (e.g., articles, website & social media content); proven ability to produce high-quality communications deliverables; strong attention to detail;

Strong organisational, time management, & project management/planning skills; flexibility & high sense of priority setting – ability to work independently on multiple projects in parallel and deliver on agreed timelines;

Strong interpersonal skills – keen to work in a multidisciplinary team, and to develop & nurture effective working relationships with various stakeholders;

Excellent command of English (written & spoken), and clear communication;

Good knowledge of the social media landscape;

IT literacy / technical skills – proficient in the use of MS Office and familiar with digital communications tools (e.g., mailing platforms, editing software).
