WWF European Policy Office is hiring a Communications Officer, Biodiversity

We are looking for a full time Biodiversity Communications Officer from May 2026 to help design and implement WWF EU’s communications strategies on policy issues related to biodiversity and wildlife crime, reporting to the WWF EU Communications Manager, Natural Resources.

## Main responsibilities:

– **Strategic communications:** Develop and implement communication strategies to support WWF’s policy objectives for the protection of biodiversity (Nature Restoration Law, Birds and Habitats Directives) and wildlife crime (CITES, Environmental Crime Directive);
– **Content creation:** Produce engaging and impactful content for a variety of channels, including press releases, articles, blogs, social media posts, newsletters, reports, and multimedia materials (visuals/videos), website updates;
– **Media relations:** Identify opportunities for media engagement, build strong relationships with EU journalists, proactively pitching stories and reactions, and responding to media inquiries; support policy colleagues in interactions with the media;
– **Event coordination:** Lead communication efforts for key events, including press briefings, webinars, conferences, workshops and stunts, ensuring WWF’s presence is impactful and coherent;
– **Support to the WWF campaign team:** Implement the communications strategy for WWF’s work on deregulation, with a particular focus on the EU Nature Restoration Law as well as the Birds and Habitats Directives, as part of the campaign team, and in close collaboration with WWF national offices;
– **Provide communications support for #HandsOffNature campaign:** in close collaboration with WWF’s Campaign Manager and coalition partners, ensuring the effective development and delivery of campaign materials;
– **Network coordination:** Work closely with WWF’s network of offices, partners, and other stakeholders to align messaging and maximise outreach, including by designing and disseminating communications and media materials for joint activities;
– **Monitoring and reporting:** Track and analyse the impact of communication activities, providing regular updates and recommendations for improvement.

## Required Qualifications and skills:

– **Education:** A degree in communications, journalism, political science, or a related field – (or equivalent work experience);
– **Experience:** At least 3-5 years of professional experience in communications, preferably in the environment or climate field and/or at EU level. Experience in media relations and developing and implementing communication strategies, as well as creating content for a variety of audiences;
– **Languages:** Fluency in English is required; proficiency in other European languages is a plus;
– **Communication Skills:** Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex topics for diverse audiences;
– **Interpersonal skills:** Ability to navigate diverse viewpoints and foster a positive, collaborative working environment;
– **Digital Expertise:** Proficiency in social media management, content creation tools, and analytics platforms;
– **Knowledge:** Understanding of EU institutions, policies and decision-making, particularly in the context of biodiversity, is a strong advantage;
– **Personal Attributes:** Adheres to WWF’s values, which are: Courage, Respect, Integrity, Collaboration.
