Joining our team means being part of an organisation that connects cities across Europe. We are committed to diversity, inclusion, and innovation, making it an ideal place for young professionals to gain hands-on experience in an international context.

About the position

We’re looking for someone to support the organisation of our annual environment forum which brings together approximately 150 city officials each year to discuss pressing environmental issues. This year, our event is due to take place in November in Sweden and will focus on the topic of climate adaptation.

In addition, the candidate would support our members in the field of climate mitigation and adaptation, waste and circular economy, facilitating cities’ input into upcoming relevant EU policies, as well as supporting communication with members and the organisation of meetings.

Responsibilities

You will work as part of the Climate and Environment Team at the Eurocities Brussels office. In this role, you will:

  • Support the Climate and Environment Team with the preparation of the environment forum, including liaising with the host city to develop the overall programme and coordinating with team members on individual sessions.
  • Draft and send relevant communication to members.
  • Assist in the organisation of working group and task force meetings, as well as policy meetings, workshops, and/or events.
  • Contribute to drafting reports, presentations, and publications.
  • Provide valuable input to team discussions and brainstorming sessions.

Profile

You are full of initiative, self-driven, curious, creative, flexible, and results oriented. You are eager to take ownership of tasks and contribute meaningfully to your team’s goals.

The skills and experience to do this job successfully include:

  • A university degree, preferably linked to urban planning, political science, environmental management, or another relevant field.
  • Proficiency in English (additional languages are an asset).
  • Strong organisational, analytical, and communication skills, plus familiarity with tools like Excel, Adobe, etc., is highly beneficial.
  • A proactive team player with a broad knowledge of and interest in environment and climate work in the EU context.

You are:

  • a dynamic team player;
  • able to work independently or with minimal supervision;
  • happy to take the initiative;
  • agile in a changing environment with the ability to juggle competing deadlines.

Assets:

  • Previous experience in environment, climate or circular economy.
  • Familiarity with EU institutions, policies, and processes.
  • Any additional skills relevant to the position.

We are looking for candidates who fulfil most of these criteria, but do not hesitate to apply if you think that you could be a good fit for the position.

We offer

  • a 6-months traineeship contract, starting in June 2025
  • a full-time position that will be carried out at Eurocities office in Brussels
  • a remuneration of approximately €1,100 per month.

Important: Eurocities will provide you with a Belgian trainee contract (CIP “convention d’immersion professionnelle”). Due to the CIP requirements and conditions, the selected candidate will need to either live in Belgium or be willing to move to Belgium for the duration of the contract (candidates need to provide a Belgian address). How to apply

Please send the documents in pdf format and mention ‘CIP Environment’ in the subject line. In your motivation letter, please explain your suitability for the position and respond to the following question: what can cities do to adapt in the face of changing climate?

We are aware that you might use AI when applying for this position. It’s perfectly fine to use AI to brainstorm, structure your ideas or edit your language. Just please be aware that while AI is one of the tools we use in Eurocities, the main tool we need for the work here is our brains. This is a content-based position, and one that AI cannot do for you. Please keep this in mind during the process to avoid disappointment on both sides later. We want to use this interview to get to know you and your ideas, not what ChatGPT thinks the best answers are.

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview. CV and personal data of non-selected candidates are not shared with anyone outside Eurocities and will be deleted immediately after the recruitment process.
