WE ARE

The Joint Research Centre (JRC) provides independent, evidence-based knowledge and science, supporting EU policies to positively impact society. The current vacancy is with Quality Improvement and Impact Unit which is part of the Directorate Strategy and Impact. The mission of the Unit is to improve the efficiency, effectiveness, impact and compliance of the JRC. It does so by:

  • steering the integrated management and internal control systems and business improvement projects

  • coordinating the interaction with the internal audit service and the European court of auditors

  • verifying the compliance with health and safety provisions

  • evaluating the impact of JRC’s scientific activities

  • coordinating the planning and reporting of modernising the JRC’s administration

  • driving the JRC strategy and monitoring its implementation

The successful candidate will contribute to internal evaluations of the JRC’s operational and scientific performance and its impact on policymaking.

WE PROPOSE

The jobholder will join an established multi-disciplinary evaluation team, composed of scientists and economists. In particular, the jobholder will assist in collecting data for and developing indicators and conducting topical studies on JRC’s activities in support of strategic decision-making. The jobholder will also contribute to organising external evaluations and the further development of evaluation methodologies and data collection and analysis tools.

The position allows getting a broad overview of the JRC’s activities and impact while pursuing deeper analysis through specific investigations. The position involves close cooperation with JRC scientists, policy DGs and external experts. The work is thus varied as regards the contents, the tools used and the interactions with the different stakeholders.

WE LOOK FOR

We are looking for an evaluation officer with the following essential requirements:

  • A degree in natural sciences or economics and at least 5 years of research experience.

  • At least two years’ experience in drafting study reports

  • Very good drafting and communication skills, translating complex scientific matters into attractive and easily understandable narratives with the relevant data infographics

  • Excellent command of English (C1), given the requirements for communication and drafting

  • Experience in using tools for quantitative and qualitative data analytics

The following is considered an advantage:

  • Experience in research metrics and research evaluation.

Given the broad range of JRC’s scientific activities, the job holder should have an interest in and a quick grasp of scientific matters outside his/her field of specialisation. We are looking for a team player who can also contribute to leading specific projects. The job requires intensive interactions with scientists across the JRC, hence it is important to be able to create win-win situations for contributors.
