Job Summary
The finance officer will manage the financial records, including bookkeeping, budgets, and financial reports for the Transatlantic Foundation. They will ensure compliance with all Belgian accounting and tax regulations.
Responsibilities
- Record keeping: Maintain accurate financial records, track expenses, and reconcile accounts in NetSuite. Ensure completeness of expense reporting for all office expenditures.
- Financial reporting: Prepare financial reports and related tax requirements. Prepare for January 1, 2026 launch of Pan-European Procurement and Payment On-Line (PEPOL).
- Grant accounting: Working with Grants management team, create and process invoices, send bills to donors/funders, apply cash receipts and check for accuracy.
- Accounts payable and receivable: Manage accounts payable and receivables, process employee reimbursements for European based employees. Record and maintain documentation for payments via bank account and in cash. Streamline accounts payable and receivable in relation to TF’s multiyear funders.
- Liaise with the Finance department in D.C. regarding the office monthly reporting, closure of fiscal year, audit requests, and other ad hoc requests.
- Financial analysis: Provide financial analysis and advice to support decision-making.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with accounting standards and Belgium regulations. Ensure internal controls are in place for all TF accounting activities, including segregation of duties.
- Serve as main point of contact for external professionals, accountants, lawyers, auditors, insurance companies, the bank, etc.
- Advise workstreams on best accounting practices. Set-up templates when relevant.
Skills/Education
- 5+ years of work experience
- Proficient in US GAAP and Belgium accounting standards
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles is essential
- Non-profit accounting and grant allocation experience preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software and other financial transaction processing and reporting software required. NetSuite preferred.
- Critical to the performance of this job is a demonstrated ability to function as a team member together with the ability to consistently exercise good judgment, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Must be interested in understanding processes and recommending changes/implementing improvements.
- Communication skills: Communicate with DC based finance team, business partners and TF leadership, and use interpersonal skills to understand others.
- Be familiar with cybersecurity best practices and data protection.
- A bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in accounting, finance, economics, or business management
- A certified public accountant (CPA) certificate or equivalent experience
Salary: €48,600 – €60,700, with a 2 year fixed term contract with a possibility of extension.
