Background
The Liaison Office with the European Union and Belgium in Brussels (LOB) follows the work of the European institutions (Commission, Parliament, Council, European Economic and Social Committee, Committee of the Regions) and other European Union bodies in areas of relevance to FAO’s policies and programmes. The Office facilitates the Organization’s communication and cooperation with these institutions, as well as serving as liaison to the Organisation for African Caribbean and Pacific States, the Belgian Federal and Regional Governments and institutions, academia, private sector, NGOs and UN Agencies based in Belgium. It provides policy advice, mobilizes resources and fosters the exchange of information with FAO in priority areas, including agriculture, food security and nutrition aid, biodiversity, natural resources, consumer protection, fishery and forestry.
The position is located in Brussels, Belgium.
Duties and responsibilities

Provide support to the general communication activities of the FAO Brussels Office, including through the digital channels of the office.

Contribute to the drafting and editing of content for the digital channels (website, newsletter and social media) and support the generation of visual content (photos and videos).

Assist with logistics and actively participate in the organization and implementation of the office’s major events and campaigns and other international observances.

Participate in specific meetings and events (virtual and/or in-person) related to FAO’s global mandate.

Produce articles, photos, and summary reports on these meetings and events.

Assist the liaison team in maintaining contacts with Flemish institutions, including collaboration with the FTP and its alumni-network related events.

Assist with research, data collection, and document preparation related to the office’s work.

Help identify and disseminate FAO resources, tools, and data.

Liaise with FAOLOB’s partners and stakeholders as instructed.

Handle emails and inquiries when necessary.

Perform light administrative tasks upon request.

Carry out other relevant tasks as needed.
Expected outputs

One own-initiative event, in collaboration with the FAOLOB liaison and/or communications team on a topic relevant to the office.

Minimum requirements

Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree of a bona fide (i.e. listed in the IAU/UNESCO database) educational institution in a relevant field or recently graduated. Preference will go to applicants currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a post-graduate university programme in a relevant field.

Working level communication skills in English, both orally and in writing.

Computer literate in standard software applications (mainly Microsoft Office).

Able to work under pressure within multidisciplinary and diverse cultural background teams.

Familiar with the EU’s and Belgium’s government structures.

Technical/Functional Skills

Experience in communication is considered an advantage.
