Department: Science Education Department (SciEduDept-Trainee-2025-4)

European Schoolnet (EUN) is looking for one new Pedagogical Research and Education trainee to join its Science Education department in Brussels. The trainee will actively support the pedagogical and research activities of the department and will have the opportunity to monitor the submission of teaching materials as well as assist in organizing and delivering online activities.

The Science Department’s mission is to support and encourage young talent in STEM, to train tomorrow’s professionals, who are essential to our society. Its main focus is on innovation in the teaching of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in schools.

Main tasks

This list is for indicative purposes only. It will be adapted to meet the priorities of the organisation and in response to skills demonstrated by the trainee. Tasks will include:

  • Monitor the submission of teaching materials and publications.

  • Follow-up on user requests.

  • Curate and edit learning scenarios and other educational materials.

  • Coordinate teachers and schools’ activities and provide pedagogical support as needed (including reviewing submissions, supporting teachers in submitting entries for review, …).

  • Assess and follow up on School Practice Evidence (SPEs) submitted by schools participating in the STEM School Label, which helps schools develop a STEM strategy.

  • Liaise with teachers, monitor their activities, support implementation, and prepare reports.

  • Plan and coordinate webinars on Science Education, including speaker outreach, technical training, topic selection, discussion moderation, and reporting.

Profile and skills

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in education, Science or another relevant field.

  • Experience in educational project management, ideally in STEM fields may be an asset.

  • Proficiency in digital tools, online learning platforms and pedagogical content development.

  • Very good spoken and written English plus at least one other EU language.

  • Attention to detail and being able to work independently.

  • Very good organisational and coordination skills.

  • A team player with strong interpersonal and intercultural skills to succeed within an international environment.

Useful information

  • Duration of contract: 6 months’ internship starting from May 2025. This is a full-time position.

  • Number of vacancies: 1

  • Permit: Applicants must be EU citizens or already possess a valid work permit for Belgium.

  • Benefits: a stipend of 1100 €/month net for the duration of the internship; hybrid position: Remote working from the Belgian residence up to three days per week allowed (Science Education department colleagues work from the office on Thursdays and Fridays); up to 10 days remote working from outside Belgium during the internship.

  • Selected candidates will have an interview via video conference with the head of the Science Education Department and Human Resources.

About the Science Education Department

STEM Education, including Educational (Emerging) Technologies, is one of the priorities of EUN’s Ministries of Education (MoEs). In the last 10+ years, this team has been involved in over 60 education projects including both EC funded initiatives (e.g., Scientix, the community for science education in Europe) and private funded projects (e.g., the STEM Alliance). The department consists of 24 colleagues, including project managers, pedagogical advisers, and communications officers.
