Eurochild is an international non-governmental organisation based in Brussels, which promotes the well-being and rights of children and young people at the European level and, through its membership, in the European countries. We are supported financially by the European Commission. In the 20 years since its establishment, Eurochild has grown into one of the most influential networks on children’s rights in Europe. It has over 220 members across 41 countries in Europe, including national coalitions of children’s rights.
## About this position
This internship position at Eurochild’s Brussels-based Secretariat offers an exciting opportunity to support one of Eurochild’s key policy priorities under its 2025-2029 Strategic Framework: enabling and supporting children’s rights in the digital environment. The internship will take place at a crucial moment, as children’s online safety, digital rights, platform accountability and age-appropriate design are high on the agenda of the EU institutions and Member States. The intern will support Eurochild’s policy and advocacy work on children’s rights online, including through monitoring policy developments, contributing to policy and communication materials, supporting advocacy meetings, engaging with Eurochild members, and helping strengthen Eurochild’s evidence-based advocacy and impact monitoring.
## The specific responsibilities of the Policy & Advocacy Intern – online safety include:
– Monitors and supports the engagement with developments of European and international policies regarding children’s rights in the digital environment, most notably the Regulation to combat child sexual abuse and the Digital Services Act;
– Monitor and supports the engagement with other legislative files, including the upcoming Digital Fairness Act, the revision of the Audiovisual Media Services Directive, as well as other policy discussions, including, for instance, age restrictions on social media or age verification.
– Supports the development of advocacy messages and policy analysis on children’s rights in the digital environment, including online safety, privacy, platform accountability, age assurance, commercial practices, artificial intelligence and children’s participation.
– Contributes to the drafting of policy papers, public contributions, articles, speaking notes, and communication materials in this area;
– Supports Eurochild colleagues prior to, during and after advocacy meetings with stakeholders, including in the European Parliament, the European Commission, and Representatives of the Member States, as well as civil society organisations, key tech industry players;
– Support coalition work, especially within the European Child Sexual Abuse Legislation Advocacy Group.
– Liaises and monitors engagement with Eurochild members, working on children´s rights in the digital environment, including, webinars and trainings and other activities such as updates or policy briefs;;
– Contributes to monitoring Eurochild’s advocacy impact in the digital portfolio, including by tracking meetings, policy developments, stakeholder engagement and uptake of Eurochild’s recommendations.Coordinates with the Child Participation Team, to support children’s involvement in this policy area, in particular the Eurochild’s NOVA children’s council, working on children’s rights in the digital environment ;
– Supports Eurochild working structures (including drafting documents, organising meetings, coordinating inputs, updating databases, etc.).
## Candidate Requirements:
– Good understanding of the EU legislative framework impacting children’s rights in the digital environment. Previous experience working or researching on this is a plus.
– University degree or relevant experience in EU law and policy making, human rights, children’s rights, political sciences, or public policy;
– Strong analytical skills and interest in learning more about advocacy at the EU level;
– Excellent spoken and written English; proficiency in other EU languages is an asset;
– Flexibility and readiness to work in a small, interdependent and international team;
– National-level experience in one of the Eurochild priority areas is a strong asset.
## Support and supervision
The Policy & Advocacy Intern – online safety will report to the Senior Policy Officer. They will also work in close collaboration with other members of the Policy, Advocacy, and Communication team, the Director of Child Rights and Capacity Building, as well as the wider Eurochild Secretariat.
## Conditions
– Remuneration: Our interns receive a monthly standard remuneration 1250€, + home working allowance 134.71€, + internet allowance 20€, + transport costs 56€.
– Lunch vouchers of 8€ per working day.
– Location: Eurochild Secretariat, Brussels.
– Preferred starting date: September 2026.
– Type of contract: 6 months, with a possible option to extend for a further 6 months, if mutually agreed.
– Due to Belgian rules, you must be either an EU citizen or in possession of a valid work permit for Belgium.
