Pesticide Action Network (PAN) Europe is a Brussels-based environmental NGO with a diverse, multidisciplinary and multilingual team. PAN Europe strives to eliminate hazardous pesticides in Europe and beyond, reduce dependency on pesticides, and promote ecologically sound alternatives to chemical pest control.
PAN Europe is an association of 57 European organisational members.
## Internship Description
The internship will support PAN Europe’s 2026 campaign and policy work to phase out toxic pesticides used in agriculture and promote the transition towards sustainable food systems.
This is an English-German speaking internship, as you will be required to work closely with our campaign partner(s) in Germany, on joint activities.
Under this internship, you will contribute to PAN Europe’s campaigns on supermarkets and toxic pesticides, including PFAS. You will support our supermarkets campaign in Germany and liaise with retailers. You will work closely with our team and member organisations across Europe, and follow PAN’s daily activities concerning the work carried out by the European Commission, European Food Safety Authority, the European Parliament, EU Member States and our NGO partners.
Working within a highly motivated team of experts in agriculture, environmental toxicology, human health and policy-making, you will gain valuable knowledge and experience in advocacy, campaigning, awareness raising, communication activities and sustainable food systems.
## Main Tasks
– Work closely with our supermarket campaign partner in Germany
– Support investigations on supermarkets policies related to pesticide use in Germany and other European countries
– Liaise with German retailers, collect relevant information and analyse data
– Monitor and follow up on the authorisation of problematic pesticides in the European Union, including PFAS, endocrine disruptors and neurotoxic substances
– Assist in coordinating coalitions and working groups with member organisations across Europe
– Contribute to the coordination of sampling campaigns with PAN members
– Collect and summarise scientific, regulatory and political information
– Support the drafting and dissemination of communication material
– Contribute to the preparation and writing of policy documents
– Support the organisation of meetings and events
## Location
This position is based in Brussels, Belgium. We allow a combination of home and office work (hybrid) but physical presence is mandatory twice per week.
## Person Specification
### Education and Training
– A degree in Environmental Sciences, Health Sciences, Political Sciences, Law, European Affairs or related field
– A Master’s degree in a relevant field is an asset
### Experience and Knowledge
– Demonstrable interest in chemical pollution, environmental protection, public health and/or sustainable food systems
– Experienced in managing professional relationships with retail clients and commercial partners
– Familiarity with relevant legal frameworks and sustainable food systems
### Key Competences
– Fluent in English and German (other EU official languages are considered an extra asset)
– Excellent written and oral communication skills
– Works cooperatively with others in team, with proactive and supportive approach
– Positive attitude and strong problem solving mindset
– Commitment to PAN Europe’s vision, mission, values, and a working style which reflects these
– Commitment to working for the protection of health and the environment

## Internship Requirements
Candidates for this internship must have the pre-existing right to work in Belgium and this right must be extended to at least six months from the start date of the internship.
Full-time work of 5 days per week (38 hours), for a 6-month duration (with a possibility of extension for another six month period, under the same agreement).
## What We Offer
This is a paid internship and should ideally start in April 2026. Interns are hired under the Belgian legal framework of the “Convention d’Immersion Professionnelle”. You will also receive lunch vouchers at a face value of 8,00 EUR per day, as well as 10 days of paid annual leave.
If the successful candidate is interested in staying within the organisation after the end of the internship period, and provided there is sufficient budget and a positive performance review, PAN Europe will consider offering a contract of employment.
