Who we are:
The European Union of Jewish Students (EUJS) is the umbrella organisation of 35 national Jewish student unions in Europe, representing over 160,000 Jewish students. Since its creation in 1978, EUJS has been at the forefront of community-building, advocacy, education, intercultural, inter-religious programming, as well as the promotion of a thriving Jewish life in Europe.
EUJS is a Framework Partner of the European Commission and a founding member of the European Youth Forum (EYF), as well as a member of the World Union of Jewish Students (WUJS). Its activities are supported by the Council of Europe (CoE). EUJS is one of the largest international student organisations worldwide and the first Jewish Youth NGO to obtain special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
Description of the position:
EUJS is seeking a full-time Policy Officer responsible for policy and EU affairs, working closely with the EUJS President and Board in implementing the organisation’s advocacy strategy. This challenging and rewarding position offers the successful candidate a unique insight into the inner workings of the EU institutions, Jewish advocacy priorities, and the wide range of activities at EUJS.
Main responsibilities at EUJS:
- Organising and coordinating international political campaigns, seminars and events, such as the EU Activism Seminar and the UN Ambassadors Seminar.
- Supporting EUJS programming and projects, including organisation and logistical tasks.
- Drafting statements and contributing to EUJS communications on political developments.
- Representing EUJS in meetings with EU institutions, Jewish and non-Jewish organisations, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Cultivating EUJS relations with other youth organisations in the framework of the European Youth Forum (YFJ) and beyond.
- Overseeing the editorial work of The Bridge, EUJS’s bi-annual magazine.
- Developing short- and long-term strategies in line with EUJS policies.
- Supporting the EUJS Board and Office on policy matters.
- Preparing briefings, drafting reports, and managing follow-up communications after meetings.
Required skills and additional assets:
- Solid understanding of EUJS’s missions, activities and values.
- Knowledge of the European Union and its institutions.
- Familiarity with Jewish issues and Jewish communal life.
- Strong research and policy analysis skills, including the ability to draft concise reports.
- Awareness of international and national media networks.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong team-work skills, combined with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in political science, international relations, journalism, communications, or any relevant field.
- Availability to work full-time at the EUJS office in Brussels, Belgium.
