Purpose of the role
We are offering an exciting opportunity to gain global recognition for animal welfare. By championing Europe’s leadership in animal welfare at UN level, you will play a key role in advancing the World Federation for Animals’ strategy. The position involves collaborating with Eurogroup for Animals member organisations, European countries, and EU institutions.
Primary responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategies to contribute, at EU level, to the WFA objective to establish global recognition of animal welfare;
- Develop a network of EU-based contacts, relevant to work at global level;
- Establish an advisory Member group to provide advice and support in the development and implementation of the EfA strategy related to this work;
- Build strong relationships with relevant EU-based contacts within international institutions;
- Develop advocacy arguments to influence key global debates on animal welfare topics, from an EU perspective;
- Align WFA’s strategy and developments with Eurogroup’s strategy and EU-level developments.
- Mobilise the animal protection community to strengthen national and European leadership and support to higher recognition of animal welfare at global level;
- Coordinate the efforts of colleagues working on WFA work streams, and serve as EfA liaison officer with the WFA.
Essential skills and qualifications
- A degree in political science, law or similar;
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience of EU and international public affairs, including in-depth knowledge of EU policy making and influencing processes;
- Preferred: background in animal advocacy/science;
- Strong diplomatic skills;
- Ability to think strategically and creatively;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Strong spoken and written English;
- Demonstrable advocacy skills and knowledge;
- Good ability of working as team member and independently.
The person should have affinity with animal welfare and relate to the vision and mission of Eurogroup for Animals.
Practicalities
- The position is a part-time one (19h per week), and funded for two years.
- The position is based in Brussels, with a possibility for remote work.
