Salary Range: EUR 45,000 – 55,000 p.a. (all inclusive) depending on experience

Background

Climate Action Network (CAN) is a global network of more than 1,900 civil society organizations in over 130 countries driving collective and sustainable action to fight the climate crisis and to achieve social and racial justice.

CAN members work to achieve this goal through information exchange and the coordinated development of NGO strategy on international, regional and national climate issues. CAN has regional and national network hubs that coordinate these efforts around the world.

Over the past few years, CAN-I has grown its work on Just Transition, in particular with regards to advancing justice for communities which could be negatively impacted by the phase out of polluting sectors and defending their rights to define and obtain support to shape their own future.

The position

CAN International is seeking a Project Manager to support CAN’s work on Just Transition, supporting the execution and development of selected CAN I programmes and projects. This includes the oversight and execution of two projects aimed at ensuring key stakeholders and social partners in coal regions in developing countries plan for and implement just energy transition pathways away from coal and towards a low-carbon energy system. The projects are aimed at:

  • Supporting the exchange between civil society actors active in coal regions in the Global South via an international network, policy dialogue and a knowledge hub, strengthening the capacities of key stakeholders in the participating coal regions to plan and implement localized just energy transition pathways away from coal and towards a low carbon energy system.

  • Providing support towards affected civil society organisations and communities in East Kalimantan and South Sumatra, by supporting: capacity building and awareness raising efforts on JET, the establishment of meaningful stakeholder consultation processes, the identification of transformational measures to support localised JETs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Project Management: implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Coordinate the implementation of activities of the two projects and ensure that they are completed successfully, on time and within budget.

  • Develop Terms of Reference for Consultants hired on a short-term basis, manage their engagement and ensure their proper delivery of services.

  • Undertake monitoring and evaluation of activities and the project, managing the project schedule, activity plan and planning milestones, tracking progress, deliverables and other outcomes.

  • Provide support to the team in the implementation of activities.

  • Liaise with our regional and national partners where necessary in the implementation of project activities.

Project planning, development, reporting and compliance

  • Development of project implementation plans and other necessary project documentation

  • Development of project reports in a timely manner

Provide support to CAN-I’s work on Just Transition

  • Support the team in the systematic convening of nodes around just transition and support the socialization, creation and fostering of linkages with work of nodes and enhanced strategic collaboration for network cohesion and impact

  • Work with the CAN Secretariat in preparations for and coordination of the network’s activities when needed.

  • Any other duties as appropriate

Job Related experience & knowledge:

  • Advanced degree in a relevant field

  • At least 5 years experience in one or several climate or social policy areas at national and/or international level. Experience specifically linked to just transition is strongly desirable.

  • Proven expertise in project management and reporting, notably in projects with detailed governance and reporting standards.

  • Ability to engage with a global membership and working with people from different cultural backgrounds.

  • Experience working in non for profit activities.

  • Self-reliant, self-disciplined and ability to work in a global team.

Desired skills/abilities:

  • Excellent organization skills, problem solving skills and ability to prioritize tasks effectively

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and ability to effectively communicate in written and spoken English; Knowledge of Bahasa/or German would be a bonus.

  • Well-developed creativity and initiative

  • Ability to work remotely and independently and in collaboration with other staff, Nodes, members and other partners

  • Availability to work flexibly across different time zones.

  • Motivated by supporting project partners and team members to deliver on goals and activities.

  • Organized, high level of accuracy, and attention to detail.

  • Ability to travel internationally up to 2-3 times per year for 1-3 weeks per travel.

IT Skills:

  • Excellent computer skills and professional user of MS Office Programmes, Google Suite and Zoom

  • Familiarity with using online organizing tools
