The Joint Research Centre (JRC) provides independent, evidence-based knowledge and science, supporting EU policies to positively impact society.
The current vacancy is with the Budget Execution Unit in Brussels, which is part of the Operations and Support Management Directorate .
The Directorate's mission is to ensure efficient and effective deployment of the resources necessary to support the JRC's activities, in compliance with all applicable rules and regulations. We also make the JRC sites safe, secure and attractive working environments by providing efficient customer-driven services to facilitate the current and future scientific activities of the JRC. We also ensure that JRC sites act as a good neighbor to their respective communities at large.
The mission of the Budget Execution Unit is to support and coordinate the execution of the Ispra and Brussels budget in close collaboration with the operational services, managing efficiently expenditure activities in compliance with all the applicable rules and regulations. We also provide logistic and administrative support to colleagues in Brussels. Unit fosters a culture of cooperation and mutual support within and among its teams and operates on the basis of full responsibility and trust.
We offer the possibility to work in an international and dynamic working environment as Project Officer - Artificial Intelligence applied to operations management and horizontal activities -within the JRC research program. The successful candidate will work with the Financial Support to Brussels Headquarter team , under the group leaders' guidance and directly with the Head of Unit.

We propose
The jobholder will support the Operations and Support Management Directorate in exploiting and investigating the use of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve operational and financial efficiency, while contributing to analysis, intelligence, and strategic decision-making.
The main tasks related to this job are:
- Analysis and Intelligence -Identify points in the JRC's financial lifecycle where AI can be introduced to improve accuracy and efficiency and prototype LLM-based virtual assistants or agents to answer routine procedural queries;
- Budget, Finance, Contracts and Accounting -Design AI-driven tools that automates contract review and compliance checks, ensuring contracts are executed accurately and on schedule. Implement AI solutions to automate financial reporting tasks;
- Process Management -Implement AI-enabled automation within existing workflows to eliminate bottlenecks and provide real-time performance monitoring. Facilitate the adoption of AI in the various departments;
- Change Management & Training -Deliver targeted training sessions and concise user guides to help staff adopt AI-enabled processes confidently;
- Ethics, Governance & Compliance -Conduct regular audits of AI applications to verify adherence to the Commission's ethical framework, data -protection rules and regulatory requirements.
We look for
We are looking for a Project Officer with the following essential requirements :
- Proven experience in use of large language models (LLMs) and in design and implementation of AI-powered tools such as virtual assistants or agents;
- Ability to communicate in English in a professional context (Level C1);
The following is considered an advantage :
- Good knowledge of financial rules and information and communication technologies;
- At least 1 year of experience in analysis of business processes and automation;
