## BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Founded in 1983, the Red Cross EU (RCEU) Office is a membership office representing the 27 National Red Cross Societies in the EU, the Norwegian Red Cross, the Icelandic Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). The RCEU Office helps to coordinate relations between its member organisations and EU decision-makers and stakeholders, sharing their extensive expertise in supporting people and communities experiencing vulnerability within and outside the EU. Based on our members’ practical insights, we promote dignity and wellbeing by facilitating and voicing common positions and recommendations towards the EU and Member States. We also monitor European developments that could impact the implementation of our members’ work, as well as supporting them to prepare joint proposals to access EU funding.

## JOB PURPOSE

Working under the guidance of the Head of Unit, Social Inclusion and Migration, the Social Inclusion Trainee will support the implementation of the priorities of the RCEU Social Inclusion and Migration Unit, in line with the [Red Cross EU Office Strategy 2022-2027](https://redcross.eu/positions-publications/red-cross-eu-strategy-2022-2027).

## KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & REQUIREMENTS

### Positioning and influencing

– Support the development of humanitarian diplomacy and communication materials that highlight the work and recommendations of National Red Cross Societies in supporting people experiencing or at risk of poverty, such as children and families.
– Support humanitarian diplomacy work and internal coordination linked to the Preparedness Union Strategy from a social inclusion perspective, in particular by collecting and showcasing examples of how the Red Cross helps communities and marginalised groups to prepare for and respond to crises, as well as initiatives around health and mental health care in emergencies.
– Support the organisation of external events and meetings with EU stakeholders.

### Increase EU resources

– Support engagement on the next EU Multiannual Financial Framework by collecting evidence from members to influence key regulations, notably the National and Regional Partnership Plans and the European Social Fund+ Regulation.
– Support monitoring, analysis and information-sharing on key EU programmes that are relevant for Red Cross societies’ work (ESF+, EU4Health, CERV, Erasmus, Horizon), including the development of the related annual workplans.
– Map members’ activities and their use of EU funding in the area of social inclusion.

### Serve Red Cross EU Office members

– Assist in producing and disseminating materials to keep members informed about EU policy and political developments in social affairs, including newsletters and briefings.
– Support in the organisation and follow up of internal meetings, particularly meetings with thematic focal points in the membership.
– Update the RCEU Office intranet.

## CANDIDATE PROFILE

### Education

– University degree in social sciences, sociology, social affairs, political science, law or other related field.

### Experience

– Previous experience in the field of advocacy.
– Experience with drafting reports, papers and briefings.
– Experience with organising events.

### Skills, abilities and knowledge

– Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills in English.
– Knowledge of EU institutional affairs, social policies, legislation and programmes.
– Strong interpersonal skills, cooperative attitude and ease in conversing with diverse interlocutors.
– Great teamwork skills but also ability to work independently.
– Curiosity and openness to exploring and understanding the work of Red Cross societies at national and local levels.
– Good working knowledge of Word, Excel, Power Point and Teams.
– Knowledge of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is an asset.

## TERMS AND CONDITIONS

– ‘Professional Immersion’ agreement (‘Convention d’immersion professionnelle’), subject to Belgian labour legislation (this requires an official registration in Belgium). Temporary agreement from May to October 2026 with possibility of extension subject to funding.
– Full time position of 38 hours per week.
– Based in Brussels, Belgium.
– The monthly gross compensation is EUR 1,077.06.
