The Organisation

Cancer Patients Europe (CPE) is a pan-European and pan-cancer type association based in Brussels. It was established to represent and empower the voices of cancer patients and cancer survivors, with the vision to reduce the burden of cancer on patients, carers, survivors, healthcare systems, and society.

The Position

CPE is recruiting a Project Finance Officer to support the management and financial reporting of CPE projects. You will work in coordination with the CPE team, primarily with the Administration Officer, Project Officer and HR department with some level of independence and ownership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the financial administration of EU-funded projects: handling budgeting, financial control, periodic financial reporting including cost statements and supporting documentation, ensuring compliance with EU rules, liaising with partners and the European Commission, preparing for audits.
  • Maintain and update key project financial overviews and documentation, in particular timesheets and expenditure overviews and support processes such as monitoring personnel costs, quarterly budget vs. actuals, and resource allocation.
  • Assist the Administration Officer with the preparation of project financial reports and supporting documentation for sponsors and internal/external audits.
  • Support the Administration Officer in the preparation of annual budgets related to projects (project income and costs).
  • These are the key responsibilities of the role. However, the successful candidate is expected to provide additional support to the Administration Officer and the Project Officer as required.

All tasks will be conducted in close cooperation with the Administration Officer, the Project Officer and the CPE team. Reports directly to the COO and works closely with the Administration Officer, Project Officer and HR department.

Education and Skills

  • Education in Economics and / or Administration/Finance, preferably with experience in non-profit organisation management; BA or postgraduate degree in finance management;
  • Ability to plan the workload and estimate timelines accurately, and to meet tight deadlines;
  • Highly organised, detail-oriented, analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent capacity for analyzing data and numbers, with a particular attention to budget management is necessary
  • Ability to work under pressure in a dynamic organisation with professionalism and confidentiality;
  • Positive, enthusiastic and energetic, with a “hands-on” approach
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Fluency in English (oral and written), with proficiency in other EU languages considered an asset.

Teamwork

  • Proactive approach, collegiality, readiness to offer a helping hand in various tasks, sociable and mature personality able to relate with peers and high-level officials;
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others in both team and independent environments;
  • Willingness and availability to work remotely and to undertake business travel;
  • Ability to work in an international and multicultural environment.

Experience

  • 1-2 years of relevant prior professional experience in a similar position;
  • Demonstrated and strong experience in financially managing EU-funded projects, including project finance, financial bookkeeping, account management, financial reporting and compliance in EU-funded project contexts, and audit preparation.
  • Experience in preparing documents, such as reports and graphs, and creating and using Excel tables is essential;
  • Experience in patient advocacy/health sector would be an advantage.

What we offer

This is a full-time position for one year (renewable upon professional assessment). Remuneration will be according to the experience and contract type.
