WHO we are
Euromontana is the European association for cooperation and sustainable development of mountain areas. We are a not-for-profit, multi-actor network bringing together more than 60 organisations from across Europe, both within and beyond the European Union. Our members include regional and local authorities, development agencies, agriculture and rural development organisations, environmental bodies and research institutes.
Together, we work to improve the quality of life of people living in mountain areas and to ensure that these areas remain attractive places to live and work. Our activities cover a wide range of issues relevant to mountain development, including territorial development, demography, agriculture and pastoralism, biodiversity, climate change, tourism and innovation.
Our work focuses on three main areas:
- advocating for the specific challenges and opportunities of mountain areas to be better recognised in European policies;
- facilitating knowledge exchange and sharing good practices within our network and beyond;
- participating in EU-funded projects and producing studies and publications that contribute to better knowledge and policy-making for mountain areas.

WHO we are looking for
We are looking for a Project Manager to join our small and international team in Brussels, manage Euromontana’s contribution to several EU-funded projects and contribute more broadly to the organisation’s work on topics related to these projects. The successful candidate will initially work on a small number of EU-funded projects covering topics such as pastoralism, biodiversity, grassland ecosystems, rural entrepreneurship and innovation in mountain areas. The project portfolio may evolve over time depending on the needs of the organisation, internal allocation of responsibilities and the development of new projects. Euromontana’s role in these projects includes communication and dissemination, stakeholder engagement, the collection and dissemination of good practices, the preparation of reports and publications, and the organisation of events and knowledge exchange activities. Independently managing the tasks for which Euromontana is responsible in several European projects, including communication and dissemination, stakeholder engagement, good practice collection, reporting, event organisation and coordination with project partners.
- 30% of time | Wider Euromontana activities. Contributing to the wider work of the organisation, particularly on topics linked to the candidate’s projects, expertise and areas of responsibility. The successful candidate will also be expected to build thematic ownership over these topics and become an internal point of reference within the team. This may include contributing to advocacy and policy activities, publications, communication, relations with members, the preparation of General Assemblies and European Mountain Conventions, or the development of new projects.
Qualifications and experience
Candidates should have at least:
- At least three years of relevant professional experience, excluding internships, with proven ability to manage projects or substantial project activities independently.
- Experience managing projects or substantial project activities, ideally in an EU-funded or international environment.
- Experience in communication, stakeholder engagement, event organisation, knowledge exchange, good practice collection or the preparation of reports and publications.
- Strong organisational skills, with good judgement, a sense of priorities and the ability to manage several tasks and deadlines independently while knowing when to involve colleagues.
- Strong writing and editorial skills, with the ability to produce clear content for different audiences.
- Excellent written and spoken English, and working knowledge of Italian.
- A genuine interest in the sustainable development of European mountain areas.
- The right to work in Belgium by the starting date.
The ideal candidate will also have…
- Academic or professional experience related to environment, agriculture, rural development, extensive livestock farming, pastoralism, biodiversity, grasslands or ecosystem management.
- Experience producing good practices, reports, policy briefs or other publications.
- Experience with EU programmes such as LIFE, Erasmus+, Interreg Europe or Horizon Europe.
- Experience working with diverse stakeholders, including public authorities, farmers and pastoralists, researchers, training organisations or civil society organisations.
