The Joint Research Centre (JRC) provides independent, evidence-based knowledge and science, supporting EU policies to positively impact society.
The current vacancy is with Directorate A for Strategy and Impact of DG JRC (JRC). The mission of Directorate A is to steer the JRC strategic repositioning with the European Commission, and its engagement with partner DGs, but also with the member countries, international partners and the other stakeholders. The Directorate focuses on the implementation of this strategy in order to lever increased JRC impact through reporting and evaluation, resource planning and inter-institutional activity. The Directorate provides support and advice in terms of legal affairs and hosts the corporate Central IP Service. The Directorate also hosts the JRC HR Correspondent team, responsible for establishing an HR strategy directly supporting the JRC strategy. The Directorate also steers activities aiming to improve the efficiency, effectiveness, quality and impact of the organisation.
We propose a challenging position as Project Officer, aiming to support the implementation of an AI strategy intelligence platform which will allow Directorate A to make better use of available data for priority setting and staff allocation. By developing the platform, in close collaboration with the business owners, the data architects, and the JRC AI experts, the successful candidate will contribute to the JRC transition from fragmented administrative registers to AI-enabled strategic decision support.

We propose
The jobholder will mainly carry out the following tasks:
- Understanding Directorate A structure and need and offering potential development of AI uptake to increase efficiency and effectiveness, and enhance Directorate strategic steering in the JRC.
- Contribute to the design and development of the AI administrative assistant by understanding business needs, reviewing data structure, assessing data quality, building an ontology and contributing to the development of the data pipeline. Contributing to quality control and validation of the tool. Generate network visualisations that illustrate the assistant's knowledge graph and decision pathways.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of AI uptake in Directorate A and suggest improvements.
- Ensure effective collaboration with other JRC staff members involved in the development of AI tools for administrative support.
- Follow on internal and external digital developments and innovation, report back to the Director on ethics and sensitivity issues, thereby contributing to Directorate A compliance with internal rules.
- Support staff in adopting the new AI tool.

We are looking for a highly motivated, collaborative, service-oriented and independent colleague that is willing to take initiative, be a team-player and organise work in a structured way. The ideal candidate has the following essential qualifications:
- A strong technical background in a field related to Data Engineering and Artificial Intelligence.
- Experience in digital business, AI-supported workflows, stakeholder coordination, documentation, and process improvement.
- Experience in coordinating activities and projects and delivering results within time, budget and quality constraints, with a technical dimension.
- Software Engineering skills and technical expertise related to the operation of AI systems and Large Language Models.
- The position requires excellent communication skills (in English and one or several other EU official languages) and ability to federate and manage stakeholders.
It would be an asset to have:
- Experience in working on horizontal topics related to the digital field like IT governance, personal data protection, information security, AI ethics and on technical projects involving CI/CD pipelines and containerised environments.
- Having a master's in computer science is a strong asset.
- Experience of working in a multilingual environment.
