The European Affairs Programme of the Egmont Institute is hiring a Joint Research Fellow with the European Policy Centre. The position will be for an initial period of one year, renewable, starting as soon as possible.

The Egmont-EPC Research Fellow will be involved in the planning and execution of activities in his/her relevant policy area, both at the Egmont Institute and the EPC, and link the work of both think tanks.

Main responsibilities

The Joint Research Fellow will be expected to contribute to the various activities of the European Affairs programme and at the EPC (research, organizing conferences and seminars, fundraising efforts etc.), in particular with regard to EU resilience and preparedness building, enlargement and/or the Northern neighbourhood of the EU.

  • Monitor policy developments at the EU and member state level as relevant.

  • Outline the research agenda of the European Affairs programme, in coordination with the programme director.

  • Identify opportunities and apply for research fundraising.

  • Produce policy briefs and research articles, reaching out to potential contributors and editing their submissions.

  • Participate and actively seek external representation activities such as presenting papers at academic conferences, talking at policy events etc.

  • Outline a yearly program of conferences and seminars and contact relevant speakers.

  • Act as a liaison office between the EPC and Egmont and support their cooperation.

  • Build partnerships with other think tanks, universities, research institutions, and experts.

  • Engage directly and consult with policymakers in Belgian and European institutions.

Knowledge & Experience

  • A PhD in political science, economics, international relations, law or social sciences.

  • Excellent writing and speaking skills in English.

  • At least 3 years of professional experience in research, preferably with an experience working in think-tanks or other policy research organisations.

  • Well-developed understanding of European Affairs.

  • Excellent research and analytical skills, demonstrated through an established track-record of publications.

  • Strong organisational and planning skills. Project management experience will be considered an asset.

  • IT Proficiency (Microsoft Office, Webex).

  • Excellent written and spoken English.
