At the European Endowment for Democracy (EED), we support independent voices working for democratic change in some of the most complex and challenging environments in the world. Our work doesn’t live in theory — it lives in movements, stories and people.
Now, we’re looking for a sharp, curious and proactive Communications Trainee to join our small communications team in Brussels. If you know how to craft a great post, write crisp copy and run a smooth event— and you want to use those skills in a place that supports meaningful work — keep reading.
This is a one-year paid traineeship designed for someone with 1–2 years of communications experience who wants to grow in a high-trust, high-impact environment.
What You’ll Do
Content
-
Assist in drafting, editing and proofreading newsletters, articles and other comms products.

Help update and manage our website and contact databases.
Social
-
Contribute to managing EED’s social media presence (LinkedIn, X, Bluesky, Instagram, Facebook).

Create smart, engaging posts and help shape broader campaign ideas.

Track analytics and provide reports that help us understand what’s working.
Events
-
Support in organising EED events (in Brussels and online), as well as external partner events.
Admin

Assist in processing contracts, invoices and other tasks related to the team’s work.
What You Bring
You are:
-
A natural storyteller, curious for and creative with content.
-
A clear communicator, comfortable in international teams.
-
A social media native, knowing and learning from metrics.
You have:

1–2 years of experience in communications or a related field.

A postgraduate degree in communications, international affairs or a relevant field.

Near-native English writing and editing skills.

Working knowledge of social media platforms, generative AI and digital tools (e.g. Canva, Mailchimp, CMS, Adobe CC).
Bonus points for:

Fluency in another relevant language (Arabic, Ukrainian, Russian, Turkish, French, Albanian, Serbian, etc.)

Interest or knowledge in democracy support, independent media, civic activism or the EU Neighbourhood regions.
