OPERAS is the Research Infrastructure supporting open scholarly communication in the social sciences and humanities (SSH) in the European Research Area. Its mission is to coordinate and federate resources in Europe to efficiently address the scholarly communication needs of European researchers in the field of SSH.
OPERAS is an international not-for-profit association (AISBL), established in 2020 under Belgian law. In the context of multi-stakeholder cooperation, OPERAS is also managing the development of the European Diamond Capacity Hub (EDCH), which aims to facilitate a distributed, aligned, high-quality and sustainable scholarly communication infrastructure within the ERA, managed and owned by the scholarly community.
Job Summary
The EDCH Communication Officer plays a central role in ensuring impactful outreach to the Diamond OA community and beyond. They coordinate the design of a coherent communication strategy and implement tasks that strengthen the brand identity of the EDCH and foster community engagement in collaboration with the members of the EDCH Coordination Team.
Key Responsibilities

Strategic Communication
-
Design and carry out communication campaigns to develop a consistent brand identity (visual identity, messaging framework) for the EDCH and/or associated projects.

Produce or edit communication materials (toolkits, briefs, templates, press releases etc.).

Maintain and update EDCH and/or related project’s official communication channels (website, LinkedIn, Bluesky, mailing lists), coordinate and publish regular updates on activities, achievements, and events.

Monitor communication impact, and evaluate visibility and engagement.

Outreach & Stakeholder Relations

Maintain and extend a network of organisations (Policymakers, Funders, Diamond OA Publishers and Service Providers) that contribute to the operation and/or support the activities of the EDCH.

Design communication campaigns to enhance the adoption of EDCH tools, services and products.

Internal Coordination
-
Coordinate communication and disseminate information and materials across the EDCH network of partners and institutions.

Support the EDCH Coordination Team in the preparation of deliverables and other documentation (policy briefs, reports, etc).

Liaise with partners and provide support and materials (guidelines, templates) to ensure consistency across communication activities.

Events & Representation

Plan and manage communication, logistics, and reporting for conferences, events or workshops organised by the EDCH or affiliated projects.

Represent the EDCH and related projects in third-party events and conferences, as necessary.

Relationships

Daily with the EDCH Coordination Team and the Community Manager

Regularly with the OPERAS Communication Team and Coordination Team (OCT)

Regularly with the communication teams of organisations contributing to, and/or supporting, the operation of the EDCH and related projects.
Job Requirements

Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or a related field, and a minimum 3 year-experience in a relevant position

Proficiency with social media management, content management systems (Drupal, WordPress) and email marketing platforms (e.g. Mailchimp)

Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (C1 level)

Strong social skills, with ability to work in a multilingual European environment

Strong organisational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team

Ability to work under pressure and work with conflicting deadlines

The position is offered for a fixed period of up to 36 months. This is a full-time position preferably based in Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands and Portugal

Salary depends upon the experience of the successful candidate. The full package may vary depending on the country of living if working from a different country than Belgium.
