The European Endowment for Democracy (EED) is a grant-giving organisation based in Brussels.
EED’s goal is to provide flexible support to democracy activists including independent media actors, complementing other EU and member state democracy support programmes. EED provides context-based, demand-driven support based on a principle of fostering democracy and facilitating initiatives of local actors.
EED seeks a trainee for a 12-month traineeship (starting in early May 2025) in EED’s Finance team for Finance, Operations, Audit Preparation and Administrative Support.
The trainee will support the finance team of the EED Secretariat, including preparation of timesheets, processing of invoices, records management, supporting the preparation for a series of expenditure verification and systems audits required by EED donors.
This traineeship is aimed at recent graduates that want to start their career in the Finance/Operations sector and that want to work for a dynamic and international non-for-profit organisation.
The ideal candidate has a background in or experience with finance and administrative processes. Previous audit experience or knowledge of basic accounting is an advantage. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel is required. Candidates must be organised and have an eye for detail.
EED’s working language is English (fluency required); accounting and administrative language is French (knowledge an advantage).

Terms and Salary
The expected level of monthly remuneration is around €1,900 net per month, in addition to meal vouchers and the reimbursement of a monthly subscription to Brussels public transport.
The contractual relations with the trainee will be regulated by a Convention d’immersion professionnelle (a professional immersion agreement under Belgian Law).
For practical reasons, citizenship of an EU Member State or residency in the European Union is a requirement.
Workplace: EED Secretariat, located in the centre of Brussels, Belgium.
EED requires all trainees to be less than 30 years old.
